OUR HISTORY

The Mayfield Schools Foundation was established in 2010 as the Wildcat Community Foundation. The name was changed in 2019. As a 501(c)(3) organization, the Foundation provides private financial support for the innovative projects and programs of the Mayfield School District.

The Foundation was created when the District undertook the stadium renovations. There had been discussions for several years about installing multi-purpose synthetic turf in the stadium that could be used year-round. As the renovations were being planned, the architects and engineers pointed out that the playing surface should be replaced at the same time. If not, installation of the turf field after the other renovations were completed would add significant cost to the installation.

Mike Barnes, the AD at the time, asked several individuals to consider organizing an effort to raise funds for the turf field as the District had not included the replacement of the surface in the budget. Ken Myles, Harry Pierce and Tony Valentino stepped forward to lead that effort. However, two issues had to be addressed. First, the entity would need to be independent of the District to solicit and receive donations. Second, with the funds raised being earmarked for use by the District, District representation on the Foundation’s Board of Directors was essential. As a result, the initial Foundation Board members were School Board Member George Hughes, then Superintendent Dr. Phil Price and community members Chuck Abbey, Ken Myles and Harry Pierce. District Treasurer Scott Snyder served as the Fiscal Officer.

With the funds having been raised for the turf field, the Foundation’s Board worked closely with the District’s Board of Education and Administration to identify other projects and programs for which the Foundation could raise funds. See more of our work and programs here.

In 2016, the Foundation began hosting the annual Green Tie Gala and it was the Foundation’s primary source of funds until 2020. The Green Tie Gala will be held every five years, with the next gala being in 2025.

In 2017, the Mayfield Business Alliance merged with the Foundation. This enabled the Foundation to increase its fundraising by carrying on the Alliance’s successful tradition of hosting the annual golf outing, Eighteen for Education.

In 2020, the Foundation added Swing & Par-tee for MSF as our newest fundraising event at Topgolf Cleveland.

In addition to hosting its own fundraising events, the Foundation sponsors the annual Hall of Fame Induction ceremonies, the Science Fair and the Art Show.
